- _s_m_t_m_a_i_n_t is used to change the Physical Connection Management (PCM) line
- state (_p_c_m-_l_s) for debugging purposes. The _i_n_t_e_r_f_a_c_e is a symbolic name
- of the configured interface like ``ipg0''. The _p_h_y-_i_n_d_e_x can be 0 for
- the first PHY (generally the B port on a dual attach station) or 1 for
- the second PHY (the A port, if it exists). The last argument can be
- either ----tttt or the numeric or symbolic name of desired line state, _p_c_m-_l_s.
- If ----tttt is used, the PCM of the specified PHY enters the PC_TRACE state.
- If a _p_c_m-_l_s value is used, the specified PHY's PCM holds its ouput line
- state as specified. _p_c_m-_l_s can be either symbolic name or numeric value:

- _s_m_t_m_a_i_n_t can be used as a PCM-level troubleshooting tool by changing the
- PCM line state.
-
- Only the superuser can invoke _s_m_t_m_a_i_n_t.

- Forcing a PCM line state change may break the entire ring.

- If _s_m_t_m_a_i_n_t fails for any reason, it prints an appropriate message on
- standard error and exits with non-zero status.
